True prayer is characterized by purity of concentration and intensity of devotion. It reflects the changing hues of the aspirant’s heart, as he travels towards his goal.
A single pointed, exclusive and incessant absorption the Lord emanates like a glow from the prayers of all great saints and seekers. An ardent desire, a firm determination to obey the word of the Master and to live in His will is reflected in their prayers. The devotee’s prayers plead for the lord’s Grace in this endeavour. His longing to surrender himself in service finds voice in his petitions to his divine Sovereign.
In such prayers we find delineated, every poignant shade of personal relationship of the devotee with his lord. Sometimes the ardour, the pleading and yearning of a lover tormented by desire for union with the Divine Groom; at others, the utter humility of a servitor of the Omniscient Master.
