Although obscure to many devotees today, Prākṛta-rasa Śata-duṣani was well known amongst the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava community during the time of Śrila Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvatī Gosvami Prabhupāda. It was relished by the rūpanuga Vaiṣṇavas and despised by the Sahajiya communities for its condemnations of their mundane practices committed in the name of suddha-bhakti (pure devotion).
Prākṛta-rasa Sata-düşani was first written in 1917 by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and published in the Sajjana-toşani magazine (9th edition, 19th Volume). During his lifetime it was republished in the Gaudiya magazine and in the book Vraja-mandala Parikramā (1935).
We now live in a time when Sahajiyaism is no longer confined to Bengal, Orissa and Vṛndāvana. The pollution of prakrta rasa has now crossed the borders of India and found its way to foreign lands. Thus, Prākṛta-rasa Śata-dūṣaṇī is as relevant now as it ever was, if not more so.
As in the time of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhänta, the true followers of Śri Rūpa Gosvāmi will appreciate the cautionary advice given in this book. Similarly, they will also value the contribution of Srila Bhakti Gaurava Narasingha Mahäräja in the form of his Anuvytti commentary.
The holiest abode on the earth is Śri Vrndavana-dhäma and the most sacred temple in Vrndavana is the Sri Sri Rädhä Damodara Mandira. Crores of devotees visit the Radha Dämodara temple every year to have a darśana of Radha and Krsna's transcendentally beautiful forms such a darsana charms the heart and gives one the perfection of life.
Throughout the centuries many saints have resided at the Rädhä-Damodara temple, most notably Śri Rūpa Gosvāmi, Sri Jiva Gosvami and Srila A.C. Bhaktivedänta Svāmi Prabhupäda.
The purpose of this small book is to place before the devotees and pilgrims some of the histories of Sri Sri Rädha-Dämodara and Their illustrious devotees. The book contains histories with reference to very old documents and verses, along with recollections, letters and interviews.
We pray at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Rådhā-Dāmodara, Śrī Rūpa Gosvami, Śri Jiva Gosvami, Śrila A.C. Bhaktivedānta Svami Prabhupada and all the assembled Vaisnavas to kindly bestow their mercy upon us and to accept our humble service offering. Jayate Sri Sri Radha-Damodara Jeu!
