The first three chapters of the book deal with the academically significant topics such as, Microscope, Preparation of Temporary slide of plant materials and Herbarium Technique. From chapter 4 to 22 the drugs for practical study have been described in detail. Chapter 23 deals with the family wise check- list of Medicinal plants included in the B.A.M.S and M.D (Ay) syllabus.
Care has been taken to describe (he drugs in semi-technical language and to arrange the glossary of terms in alphabetic order.
The subject matter and various illustrations have been taken from reliable journals and other authentic sources. Most of the diagrams have been sketched directly by the author from fresh specimens (dissected flowers and microscopically sections).
I am especially indebted to Dr. C. Retnakaran, Director, Ayurveda Medical Education, and Govt. of Kerala for his support and inspiration during the preparation of the manuscript.
My sincere thanks are due to my colleagues, friends and family members who have accorded their co-operation and well wishes.
I also very much appreciate the co-operation and the interest taken by Mr. Jitesh Gupta, Chaukhambha Sanskrit Sansthan, Varanasi to publish the book.
