To perform any action with conviction is to understand its implication. Just as all things are mutable forms of one immutable being and finite results of one infinite force, the efficacy of all mantras is encapsulated in the Gayatri mantra.

Divinity is primarily symbolised by light and the visible source of light and energy is the solar system. Asavad4yo Brahma--The sun is the visible Brahman. That is why in the celebrated Gayatri, the light and efficacy of the mantra has been ingrained in the light and energy of the solar system.

Gayatri is extolled as the mother of the Vedas because the rich import of the mantra is such that its japa imparts the same supreme effulgence as the recitation of the four Vedas together.

The Gayatri mantra symbolises the unified field of awareness. The spiritual symphony of the universe is heard in its chanting. The omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence of the divine being is felt during its recitation. A deep, living and abiding connection is established with the God, enshrined in the heart of every person, when he chants Gayatri. A condition of perfect stillness arrives in the mind. The brain gets revitalised and its potential increases enormously which breaks down the limitations of the mind and its conservative inertia.

The gracious blessings of His Holiness Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji are conveyed to all the aspirants to make the most determined effort to apply themselves to the Gayatri japa, as enunciated in this book of Tattvaloka, and acquire the divine grace of Goddess Gayatri.

This book, printed in 2003 was, on popular demand, immediately reprinted in 2004 and again in 2008. This is the third reprint. His 1-loliness is pleased that the value of the book is well appreciated by the readers. This reprint also has been sponsored by UB Group, Bangalore. This noble gesture has been blessed by His Holiness.

It has been said that the whole world looks to India for spiritual guidance and solace. Its perennial philosophy, Sanatana Dharma, is of universal application and catholicity this country cannot easily abdicate its god-given position as the world guru.

Sincerely believing that the welfare of the world lies in the welfare of this land, our magazine, Tattvaloka, The Splendour of Truth, was started by His Holiness Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Sringeri exactly 25 years ago to spread disseminate the message of spirituality, goodwill and harmony. Our endeavour has not been in vain.

On this occasion of completion of 25 years of the magazine, Tattvaloka, this book on The Power of Gayatri has been brought out, throwing open the hidden treasures of this great land to the common gaze of every one, as this great mantra, though of this land, belongs to the whole humanity as a universal prayer of aspiration, evocation and enlightenment.

In dealing with the power of Sri Gayatri, this book, based on the Tattvaloka issue of August 1990, explores the value and relevance of the mantra in our spiritual development, analyses the Vedic sanctions behind the upasana, and highlights the usefulness of its practice in our everyday life. In fact, all actions, all forms of worship, and all mantras are rooted in Gayatri to such an extent that only on the strength of this mantra all other mantras bear fruit. His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati, the 34th pontiff of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, quoted from Adi Sankara Bhagavatpada’s Bhashyas which attribute the nirguna aspect to Gayatri and said the mantra contained in it the meaning of all four mahavakyas.

On another occasion, when a devotee asked His Holiness what he should actually invoke in Gayatri, His Holiness conceded the worship in all its forms--the solar orb or the Surya Devata, Hiranyagarbha or the cosmic soul, Isvara or the ultimate Brahman. All these, he said, depended on the different capabilities of the worshippers. The upasana is ever one, but its exact nature varied with the competence of the worshipping aspirant. He held that the Gayatri mantra was great because in the simple worship of the Sun, all possible stages in spiritual evolution had been provided for.
