Forgiveness has always been considered under the umbrella of religion and spirituality. With the advent of positive psychology it is viewed as a character strength and powerful construct that helps an individual to attain a greater sense of well-being.
The Power of Forgiveness aims at providing an understanding of the concept of forgiveness and its relationship with health and well-being. It explores core concept of forgiveness and its ancient and contemporary notations. The book has been structured in such a way that it gives a blend of conceptual and empirical evidences of forgiveness and well-being.
This book provides a thorough and balanced review of forgiveness. It explains what forgiveness is; what well-being means; the benefits forgiveness delivers; how it is related with physical, mental, social and spiritual health.
To ensure the book is both theoretically sound and empirically relevant, it draws on academic and independent research. The book has seven chapters which have been arranged in a comprehensive and logical manner. Chapter 1 deals with the concept, definition, role, models of forgiveness. It explains relationship between religion, culture, philosophy, psychology. health, and forgiveness. Chapter 2 gives a picture of early studies of forgiveness and well-being. Chapter 3 explains the rationale of the study conducted. Chapter 4 deals specifically with the methodology used in this study. Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 gives the result of the study and describe the sample and intercorrelations between forgiveness and health. The book ends with Chapter 7 summarizing major findings and implications. It also gives suggestions for the future studies.
Dr. Nidhi Mathur Ph.D, holds graduate and post-graduate degrees in Home Science with specialization in Child Development and Family Relations. Her doctorate study was in Psychology.
Presently, Dr. Mathur is Associate Professor - Home Science in Department of College Education, Rajasthan. She has teaching experience of about 25 years. Her areas of interest include teaching, research, and writing in the areas of Positive Psychology. She has authored another book Child Labour: Deprivation of Happy Childhood and many peer-reviewed academic journal articles.
Dr. Mathur is also the recipient of Bhamashah Award. She was an ICAR fellow and gold medalist at both graduate and post graduate level.

This book equips with the concepts and beliefs of forgiveness needed to improve well-being. My goal is a research text that reflects the dynamic and intellectual resource of this fast developing field of positive psychology.
