The youth of India stands at the center of the panorama of change. They will be the architects and builders of the nation. Their contribution can be rich and enduring. The possibilities which stretch before them could affect the quality and content of several multiplying areas of enterprise. During the sixty years since independence that India has sought to re-discover itself, the enormous reservoir of national energy has been flowing through new channels of development. In some cases, there have been dramatic results, notably in the sphere of food self-rights. As young men and women stand on the threshold of a new society, new frontiers beckon to them. That they possess the potential of undertaking those responsibilities successfully is proved by the individual example of many, not only in this country but also among the highly evolved societies of the West. They have demonstrated that by the quality of intellectual capacity, and by the level of innovative and imaginative action the youth of India can stand tall and proud among the peoples of the world. India needs to assume her rightful place in world leadership, and that place can be assumed only through the commitment and dedication of her youth.
Every young man and woman in India today enjoys a wider range of choice as to exercise of judgment and decision-making than earlier generations ever did. Before them lies a world of greater complexity, greater power and greater opportunities. It is almost breath- taking to envision what is possible. Their responsibilities in all that they do are therefore correspondingly much greater. That calls for greater circumspection in making choices, maturity of judgment and a faithful adherence to a code of high moral values. Each generation is positioned in time as the inheritor from past generation and as trustee for future generations. It is the obligation and duty of your generation to pass on to the future a better world than inherited. The book explores their possible role in Indian polity.

Youth is the hope of the future of the country. However, youths of character, intelligence, 'self sacrificing and obedient can shape the destiny of the nation. Youth devoid of energy, suffering from inertia and dullness, without mental vigour and courage are bound to lead us nowhere. Youth meekly constituted in mind and body breeds only the generation of cripples. For this reason sometimes a great despair and despondency comes in the minds of those who rest the hope of future upon the shoulders of the young. The youth meddling in politics often become the instru-ment of unscrupulous politicians. The misguided use is thus the great tyranny for a nation. The youth of a nation are the trustees of posterity. On the young will depend the hopes of the future? their idealism, their integrity, their character form valuable assets of the country.
