The University has started a series of lectures called "The Maharaja Sayajirao Memorial Lectures" in place of former series of lectures viz. "The Maharaja Sayajirao III Golden Jubilee Memorial Lectures" and "The Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad Honorarium Lectures". Under this new series the University invites eminent scholars to deliver public lectures in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences.
Earlier, the University had invited distinguished scholars like Professor J. B. S. Haldane, F.R.S., of the Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta, Sir Mortimer Wheeler, Secretary, British Academy, London and a renowned Archaeologist of International fame, Professor R. C. Parikh, Director B. J. Institute of Learning and Research, Ahmedabad and Dr. S. Bhagvantam, D.Sc., Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore to deliver lectures under the series.
Shri G. L. Mehta, Chairman, Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Ltd. and former Ambassador of India in U. S. A. was invited to deliver lectures under this series. He delivered two lectures-one on the 15th February, 1960, the subject being Planning and Freedom', and the second on the 28th September, 1960, the subject being Pattern of India's Economy'. Dr. Jyotindra M. Mehta, Vice-Chancellor presided on both the lectures.
This is the third publication in the Maharaja Sayajirao Memorial lectures series.
The lectures will be found useful by the scholars and students of the subject.
