Book Description
Preface

Man wants peace and tranquillity of mind amidst all adverse circumstances. But only by wish nothing can be achieved in this world. There is a saying "Where there is a will, there is a way". In this book, ways to attain calm- ness and serenity of mind have been described To acquire something, effort is necessary. The wise say that tolerance and perseverance are the keys to success in life. In the field of religion, it is more applicable and truth. Firstly there should be a wish and prayer for attainment,- secondly, seeking for the desired object and thirdly and lastly, serious effort, diligence and perseverance to secure the desired object-all these are indispensable for attaining the wished for thing. So says Jesus Christ-"Ask, and you will receive, seek, and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you" This is the real truth in case of spiritual attainment also, in case of seeking after mental peace and calmness.

In our mental world, there is happening always a cons- tant struggle between our good and evil propensitics. In the scriptures, this struggle has been called by the name "the war of gods and demons".

In this present age, the war which has been proclaimed by the demoniac or barbarous qualities, such as disbelief and disregard, weakly indulgence in materialistic outlook of mind, extreme hankering after sensual plea- sure etc., etc., the war against theism, against the thought of the other world after death, devotion to worshipful meditation on God, etc. against all godly qualities, in order to destroy them, and, as the result of which the lassitude and feebleness of religious and spiritual virtues, (i.e. ), and at the same time, the rise and growth of evils and injustice, envy, malice, hatred, lust, devastating wars, etc., have been happening, this war of the present age may be called the 'war of gods and demons' of to-day. But this modern war or struggle of the mental world is more horrid and dreadful than the wars of gods and demons of the pauranic age. In the past, this war would not generally transeend the limit of this gross material world. But the modern war is the war of mental conflict arising in the mental world and extending to the outward daily lives of men, striking at the root of humanity. So, at present age, the remedy of this war and the destruction of these evil forces, should be in the mental field. In the modern world, the absolute necessity is the moral progress and spiritual realization of mankind. Faith in and devotion to God, as well as purity of mind, once being established, firmly in mind, the state and condition of the external world would be spontaneously transformed and changed accordingly.

As in the medical treatment of the disease of a patient, the purities, the favourableness and congeniality of his environments, surroundings and behaviours should be noticed to, so, in order to change the nature and habits of a man of demoniac qualities, he should be firmly placed upon purity, truth and good and virtuous conduct. In order to transcend the demoniac and animal plane of life and to march forward to the path of attainment of spiritual bliss, the only way is to act according to the injunctions of the scriptures. Unrestrained, irregular, self-willed, unlawful and unauthorized actions, not conforming to the prescribed laws or religious principles, -are all grievous and miserable. By those actions, lust, anger, greed etc. can never be overcome, nor supreme joy or bliss can be attained. The religious and spiritual scriptures are only our resort.
