The National Seminar on Philosophy of Value-Oriented Education (18-20 Jan.2002) was a major exercise in the exploration and formulation of the foundations of Value-Oriented Education, which is the central thrust of the National Policy of Education of 1986. The Seminar began with a critique of Macaulay's scheme of education and highlighted the contributions of some of the greatest pioneers of education who strove to develop a new system of education appropriate to the genius of India and in consonance with the progressive turn of humanity towards universality and unity. A special feature of the Seminar was to underline the importance of the contribution that literature can make to the enrichment of the teaching- learning materials related to Value-Oriented Education.
