Today's Society has, for the most part, yet to realize the immense value of mantras. Mantras are primarily comprised of holy names of God and His intimate associates. As we might expect an ordinary king to intensely interrogate someone as to the exact whereabouts of a large hidden treasure, so we find the saintly King Mandhata begging to uncover the powerful holy names of Yamuna. The holy names of the Lord and His devotees are an "open secret" in that everyone can chant and derive unlimited benefit but only a few do so. The thousand names of Mother Yamuna are on a similar level to the name Hare found in the mahamantra which means "Oh Radha, oh energy of the Lord."

Sri Saubhari Muni describes the exquisite form of Sri Yamuna upon which the student should meditate. A qualification for performing such meditation is that one is not inclined to lusty impulses towards the object of meditation. If a devotee cannot overcome such improper thoughts when seeing the beautiful female forms of Krsna's consorts, one would be better off meditating upon Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu which combines Both Radha and Krsna in one transcendentally attractive feature.

All glories to Sri Yamuna, the daughter of the Sun-God and sister of Yamaraja. She is beloved of Krsna, the killer of Mura. She has made friends with Mathura District and has exceeded the greatness of Gangadevi. On the pretext of being a river, she carries the nectar flowing from Lord Sri Krsna's lotus feet.
