The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 29 July approved the National Education Policy 2020. The new policy aims to pave way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems in the country This policy will replace the 34 your old National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986 This National Education Policy envisions an education system rooted in Indian ethos that contributes directly to transforming India, that is Bharat, sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high-quality education to all, and thereby making India a global knowledge superpower The Policy envisages that the curriculum and pedagogy of our institutions must develop among the students a deep sense of respect towards the Fundamental Duties and Constitutional values, bonding with one's country, and a conscious awareness of one's roles and responsibilities in a changing world The vision of the Policy is to in still among the learners a deep-rooted pride in being Indian, not only in thought, but also in spirit, intellect, and deeds, as well as to develop knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions that support responsible commitment to human rights, sustainable development and living, and global well-being, thereby reflecting a truly global citizen. New Education Policy, 2020, was announced by the government, my ears perked up. This book will be useful both to the teachers as well as students and to anybody who has interest in Indian education.

Dr. Abhinav Chandra, M.A., Ph.D. and LL.B.is currently Associate Professor at Jeewan Lal Maurya Snatak Mahavidyalaya Jamhuri. The NEP 2020, has been in the process since 2015. It also proposed to universalise early childhood care and education (ECCE) for children aged 3 to 6 by 2030 and in secondary Education (Classes 9 to 12). That means by 2030, it aims to have 100 per cent gross enrollment ration in the schools across the country. This means that all children of school-going age will be enrolled. The foundational principles of NEP 2020 are Access, Equity, Quality. Affordability, and Accountability. The Policy believes that the education system should develop good human beings with rational thinking, compassion, empathy, courage, resilience, scientific temper, creative imagination, and ethical values.

The New National Education Policy 2020 aims to reduce the pressure on the students appearing for the Class 10 and Class 12 Board exams. The Board exams focus will be on testing concepts and knowledge application. "While the Board exams for Grades 10 and 12 will be continued, the existing system of Board and entrance examinations shall be reformed to eliminate the need for undertaking coaching classes. To reverse these harmful effects of the current assessment system, Board exams will be redesigned to encourage holistic development; students will be able to choose many of the subjects in which they take Board exams, depending on their individualised interests," the policy states.

India introduced its new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 last week, laying out the Narendra Modi government's vision and broad direction conceived for educational reform. It was considerably overdue the NEP is only India's third education policy document; the previous one was revised in 1992.
