The book contains articles by many eminent scholars across the nation and outside who not only examine the continually shifting nature of nation-hood in this part of the world, but also look into rising problematic of race, class, caste and ethnicity in modern India-issues that have become the markers of the changing identity of the nation. The variety of subjects that the book explores through the contributed essays include: transnationalism, partition literature, diaspora literature, translation studies, dalit literature, crime fiction, feminist literature and postcolonial literature, comparative studies ad fictional historiography. Through its purposeful engagement with many divergent issues central to the perpetually evolving composite identity of the nation across pre and post independent generations, the book becomes a bridge between the history of the nation and its progressive move towards a global and cosmopolitan standing. The book is an attempt to negotiate with the idea of nationhood that keeps shifting its defining parameters from time to time.

About the Author

Dr. Madhusmita Pati is a Reader in English at Ravenshaw University. A Fulbright scholar Dr. Pati specializes in American Literature with particular interest in African American women's autobiography. She is the author of a critical book Eminent Americans and National Character. She has published many articles in many reputed national and international scholarly journals and presented research papers in many national and international conferences.
Dr. Sambit Panigrahi is a Lecturer A in English at Ravenshaw University. Dr. Panigrahi holds a Ph. D. Degree on Joseph Conrad from Indian Institute of Tech nology Kanpur. He is the author of a critical book Patriarchy against Nature/ Woman: A Green Study of Joseph Conrad's Fiction and an anthology of poems The Lost Earth and Other Poems. He has published many scholarly articles in journals of national and international repute. He has presented research papers in many national and international con-ferences.
Dr. S. P. Das is at present Head, Department of English, Ravenshaw University. His specializations include Con-temporary Indian Literature, Translation Studies and Indian Aesthetics. He translates in English, Odia and Bangla and is also a creative writer.
