Sriranga Mahaguru was a fulfilled Yogi and a many-splendoured personality, the like of whom has not been born in this country for a long time now. He, in sheer spiritual eminence, was comparable to the mighty men of knowledge of whom our ancient works speak.
Being a great Guru, he had realized Atmasamadhi and became one with the Supreme power. Impelled by it - the source and the goal of yoga - he gave diksha to hundreds, opening up the path of yoga in them.
Apart from acquiring spiritual knowledge he had mastered the techniques of transmitting it too. His realization of the Supreme was soon followed by a complete knowledge of all the Vidyas which are radiated by the Atman. They all shone in his mind (brain), revealing their original nature, origin and scope. He, instead of being complacent that he had understood their tenor and drift made an extensive study of the concerned texts and mastered them.
Among the subjects which he studied were Vedas, Upanishads, Brahmasutra, Yoga, Epics, Puranas, Tantras, Agamas, Dharmasastras, Sangeetha, Ayurveda, Natyasastra, Nadisastra, Arthasastra etc. In regard to the practical sciences, he always concentrated on how he could put them to actual use. In his mind they all stood arranged in a grand pattern, supporting and interpreting one another. His Yogic fulfillment played a crucial role in this and he strengthened it by extensive studies. His wide knowledge was such as to make even scholars marvel at its accuracy. His mind automatically rejected whatever was inconsequential.
It is with great reverence and a deep sense of gratitude to our Rishis and Gurudampatis that we proceed to present this text - "Musings of the Mahaguru - Part 1". This book consists of a set of English renderings of the immortal and soulful discourses of the Yogi seer Sriranga Mahaguru on a variety of topics ranging from the esoteric to the utilitarian, They were first published as a series of 21 books in Kannada under the title Amaravaņi. The current book is an English rendering of selected topics from those publications, which appeared over a long period of time in the monthly magazine Arya Samskiti of the Mandiram.
Mahaguru, known as Sriranga to the society, was a pious and humble householder for all external appearances but internally he was a yogi par excellence and the one who possessed a complete mastery over varied facets of Yoga. He took his birth in a tiny hamlet called Hedathale near Mysuru in 1913 thereby rendering the place holy; his comprehensive spiritual teachings through his wholesome life made it even holier. He created a Royal lane not only for reaching the Supreme state of yoga but to get back to the mundane activities at will a task which can't even be dreamt of by ordinary mortals.
