Book Description
About the Book
The present book outlines the technical details of the Muscums of Ethnographic and Anthropological importance. The author has discussed meticulously various sensitive problems relating to col lection programme of ethnographic material, its storage and documentation as well as the method of display and presentation. Besides the classification system of ethnographic material has been dealt with in detail and it will give a first-hand knowledge for identification and study of museum material in the field. The presentation of ethno graphic material has always been a very sensitive issue. In this book the author has carefully dis cussed the various matters relating to display from three different angles-technical, academic and ethical. Finally the importance of the cultural materials which are scattered beyond the boundary of the sub-continent has been focused. The study of these materials, which are to be found in places like Fiji, Bali, Burma, Srilanka, Maldiv and Mauritius have now become significant in the cultural development policy of the country. The ethnographic Museum as an institution of research has a responsibility in this arena. These points are discussed at length in the final chapter.
