K. K. Moorthy was born in a hamlet of kolar District, Karnataka, borde- ring on Chittor Dt.. Andhra Pradesh......had his Primary School educa- tion at Mulacalacheruvu Chittoor Dt:... studied in Madanapalli, Andhara Pradesh till graduation.... a product of Besant Theo sophical School and College....graduated from Madras Univerisity in 1952.

Entered Govt. Service in 1951...... worked as clerk in Registration Department for a year and a half...... Joined es Graduate Asst. in Dt. Board High school in 1952....... worked for there years at Puttur and Piler...... underwent B.Ed, training at Govt. Training College in Kurnool in 1955-56... joined as Trained teacher at Kuppam... obtained two Masterate Degrees in the sister disciplines of Litera ture-English and History from Banaras Hindu University in 1961 and 1965 ...... worked as Special Asst. for 4 years at Z. P. M. P. Higher Secondary School, Chittoor.

Left for Tamil Nadu for College service in 1966....... worked as Lecturer at G. T. N. Arts College, Dindigul from 1966 till retirement in 1984...did Research on Byron as part time Research Scholar...... submitted the thesis for Ph. D Degree to Madurai-Kamaraj University, Madurai....... worked as Prof. & Head of the Department of English at Adhipara sakthi Engineering College, Melmaruvathur, Chengalpat Dt. at present working in the Publication Department of T. T. D., Thirupat.i

Leverning Has been contributing articles, poems, essays, stories etc., to several perodicals both in English and Telugu under different pen names.........authored about a dozen tooks in English...and ten in Telugu... Mighty Atoms for Tiny Tots (English) was serialised in Yuva Bharathi... the present book is published with the financial aid of the 1TD...Titles of the Published books in Telugu.....Poorthi Nijamu-(Poetry)...Chanuvichchina School Master (Play)...

With very great pleasure I have accepted to write a fore- word to the book on 'THE MOTHER OF MELMARUVATHUR AND HER MIRACLES written by Sri K. K. Moorthy, Professor of English, G. T. N. Arts College, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, South India.

The Temple of ADI PARASAKTHI situated in Melmaruva- thur has attained fame throughout the world very quickly and now it is one of the most popular temples of Tamil Nadu. The known history of the temple may be very recent, but the temple and the presiding deity of the temple are as old as the Universe. Remaining hidden, ADI PARASAKTHI was guiding the desti- nies of mankind for a long time, but one day She thought that She should make Her appearance on the Earth in physical form in order to grace Her devotees in a more definite manner. She was waiting for a right moment to make Her appearance. The neem tree which was in the land belonging to Sri Gopala Naicker fell one day unexpectedly and that was the first miracle done by ADI PARASAKTHI. In 1966, the neem tree by falling down showed to the world the Swayambhu Linga lying under it from time immemorial. Soon a temple was constructed around it and that is what we now call as the ADI PARA- SAKTHI temple of Melmaruvathur.

The discovery of Bangaru Adigalar is another notable miracle of ADI PARASAKTHI. Since his birth, Bangaru Adigalar has been displaying unimaginable miracles under the guidance of ADI PARASAKTHI.

Exceat for augmenting the devout reading community by the addition of English knowing minority, and to ac- quaint them with the history of the temple and the miracles of Sri Adi Parasakthi, for the sole purpose of bringing them under the all-protective umbrella of the MOTHER, I have nothing to offer by way of explanation, in attempting to write this booklet. When denied the opportunity of having any access to the hallowed feet of the MOTHER through English, my writing skill the divine spark smouldering then, burst into flame and propelled me into action to fill in the gap.

At once I desired to know whether its ambition deserves divine sanction, or not. I met one at Melmaruvathur itself, whose 'say' is decisive in matters of temple ad- ministration and expressed, "As there is no book on temple history in English, may I venture to write one for the benefit of the public?" He answered that there was one manuscript on hand already and any way, it was proper to seek the approval of Shri H. H. Bangaru Adigalar, the highest person-the Pontiff of Sri Adi Parasakthi Peetam to decide such matters. Accordingly. I directed my steps to the office and gave vent to my mute feeling, on meeting him. He said, "Complete and bring your work and we will do the needful." It was Annaiyin Anaj-the MOTHER'S command. So, I lost no time in applying my self to the task like the proverbial humble squirrel for the dissemination of spiritual knowledge of the temple.

But, my ignorance of Tamil, in which alone a good number of books by savants, dealing with the multi- dimensional growth of the temple and the infinite potentialities of the MOTHER are written, placed obstacles. That irrepressible urge drove me from place to place seeking assistance of one, whose sound knowledge of Tamil and English would answer my quest.
