Modern Tibetan Language, Vol. I was published by LTWA in 1980. It was received with great interest and enthusiasm by the students of the Tibetan language everywhere. Many felt that it helped in the basic task of introducing the intricacies of the Tibetan language to a non-Tibetan student in a systematic and intelligent manner.

To fulfill the further needs of the students, the author Losang Thonden has tirelessly worked on the second volume of the text covering all the essential lessons of the language. For those students that have found volume one of Modern Tibetan Language useful, the second volume will be a boon.

To further help the students, the lessons of this book are available on audio cassettes in author’s original voice and acccent. It can be purchased seperately.

Modern Tibetan Language Vol. 1 was very well received by the students and researchers studying Tibetan language. It was of tremendous help to the beginners and an intelligent guide to the advanced students who found in it a systematic and correct explanations of the intricate formation of Tibetan words and sentences. We are very happy to publish and present to the increasing number of students and researchers in the Tibetan language, the second volume in Modern Tibetan Language, authored by our Language instructor Losang Thonden who has drawn with foresight and understanding from his mine of experiences gathered while teaching the non-Tibetan students at the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives for many years now.

This Modern Tibetan Language has served as a very useful tool for the students of Tibetan Language and has been reprinted three times since its first publication in 1986.

This second edition is composed on computer typesetting and errors in language and typography corrections are incorporated.
