Stress Every person in the society has become a victim of it. Many lack the proper understanding on stress and are getting confused about how to reduce it. Meditation helps in curing and preventing stress. But reducing stress is not the actual purpose of meditation.
Our ancient sages have given us the science of meditation for experiencing the ultimate. But modern gurus are using these techniques just to treat some peripheral problems, diseases. Numerous seekers are coming into existence without basic knowledge of what spirituality is. They don't know the ABC's of meditation, but they do meditation everyday and they think they are on the spiritual path.
They think they are spiritualists. Finally, meditation has become a habit for them and they are not going any where. Their learning has stopped and they are not progressing. This is not an outcome about which we should all be happy.
Sri Uppuluri Narasimhayogi (of Sri Mahalakshmi Book Corporation, Vijayawada) has been asking me to write a good book on meditation through which people can have a correct understanding about meditation and spirituality. He has already published books on many of my talks like Upadeshasaram, Sri Eesaavaasya upanishad. I couldn't turn down their request, but because I was busy with lot of other projects, I could not write the book they wanted.
Master conducted his first ten day meditation camp during the early days of the year 1990. A short summary of these classes was published by Master's friend Janardhan Suri under the title - Aatmagnanam (Wisdom of the self). This book Mind your mind, contains the detailed and complete set of Master's teachings of the ten day meditation camp.
These teachings are extremely valuable and with a good intention to make these available to the society, we all worked hard together, picked bits and pieces of information from his recorded tapes, our running notes and compiled this book. But Master disagreed to the idea of publishing the book because he personally doesn't prefer to come into public. Master turned down our request many times but the taste of the wisdom we attained through his teachings and our good intention finally made us convince.
Master to give a 'Yes' to this. Still Master expressed his doubts - I don't think a book will be as effective as a live workshop. We all requested Master to give us an opportunity and we would make this book as live as possible. Master agreed to it and the readers have to tell us how far we have succeeded in making this book appear like a live conversation.
Before getting into the teachings, it is a formality to write a few words about the author - our Master. A few words will be extremely incapable and very limited to describe such a great personality. Still, we thought we would give a try. Master is a versatile genius, a walking treasure of wisdom, a hard working person who never gets tired and indeed, a human computer. We call him 'Master' with affection and his real name is Nunna Venkateswara Rao. He is the lab superintendent of the railway hospital in the South central railway division by profession. He stays in Tirupati. His wife is Smt. Lalitha and his daughters are Shanthi Sudha and Sai Sudha.
His mother Smt. Lakkaraju Swarajyalakshmi is the first person to plant seeds of spirituality in him. She is a devotee of Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba and Goddess Rajeshwari. Her brother, Master's uncle Mr. Sphoorthi Sri Bhaskar Rao introduced him to Sanskrit literature and also to the literature of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
Dear Friends. Embodiments of Love, Embodiments of the Divine Atma!
I will address you all as friends. The other two, are the beautiful words of Bhagavan Sri Satya Sai baba. I love these words for they are so true and valuable. I will speak more on these words when the right context comes. Every one of us is an embodiment of love. Every one of us is an embodiment of the Divine Atma. We have to realize this. We have to experience this. This is our duty. This is the purpose of our life. And this alone, is the purpose of this Satsang.
I am happy that you all have come to listen with great enthusiasm, with great interest. However, before starting your journey on the path, it is necessary for you to understand a few things. All of you are looking very serious. I can see a lot of Castrol faces around in this hall. Castrol face, is a saying in Andhra. A person who is serious, who doesn't smile much has a face which looks like a layer of Castrol has been applied on it. A Castrol face we call it! If you are so serious, you cannot receive my teaching. You cannot receive me.
This much of seriousness is not required too. I always wonder why? When it comes to Spirituality, meditation, a Master, a Guru, everyone goes into a serious mood. The smile on the face goes away. Baba says - One who laughs is Narayana, the God himself, One who cries, is Man. A great truth! I love this. So, if you all want to become Narayanas, you can laugh! If you want to remain as men, it is your wish.
