About the Book
The monograph Metal crafts of Eastern India and Bangladesh is an Annotated Bibliography to initiate the studies on the metal crafts, merit detailed, in-depth studies by historians, archaeologists and scholars from the related disciplines.

The exercise has been undertaken with a clear under-standing of what has been written earlier. An exhaustive bibliography and a survey of the earlier writing are useful tools in designing new research. A number of varied aspects connected with Geology, Archaeology, Archaeometallurgy, and present knowledge about the beginning of metallurgy along with textual references pertaining to the metallurgy of this part of the subcontinent have been included.

Foreword
Metal crafts of Eastern India and Bangladesh merit detailed, in -depth studies by historians, archaeologists and scholars from the related disciplines. But such an exercise can only be undertaken with a clear understanding of what has been written earlier. An exhaustive bibliography and a survey of the earlier writing are useful tools in designing new research. My colleague Dr. P. K. Chattopadhyay has taken up this extremely useful and tiresome job in right earnest. He has the advantage of. being a metallurgist with an adequate expertise in archaeology; a rare combination in our profession. Dr. Chattopadhyay has methodically surveyed the corpus of existing literature and prepared an exhaustive list of writings.

I congratulate Dr. Chattopadhyay for the painstaking job. I am sure the discerning readers will find the volume relevant and a meaningful addition to the literature of a relatively unexplored area.
