The cultural heritage of any country is its backbone and preservation of the knowledge and wisdom enshrined in the manuscripts is vital for its identity, self esteem and pride. The Article 51A (f) of the constitution of India describes preservation of the culture of this great nation as one of the fundamental duties of the citizens. It states that the duty of every citizen of India shall be 'to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture. The Higher Education Institutes (HEI) have a great responsibility to preserve the traditional knowledge systems, heritage and cultural material apart from carrying out teaching and learning, research, publication and extension activities. This book is a ready reckoner for all the university and college libraries and for all those interested or involved in the conservation of manuscript heritage of India.
