We begin by singing praises of the Sadguru, the only one who can dispel the darkness of ignorance, the only one who can enable us to know ourselves, the only one who can show us the path to God:
Brahmanandam Paramsukhdam
Kévalam Gyānamūrtīm
Dvandātītam Gagansadrishyam
Tatvamasyādilakshyam
Ekam Nityam Vimalam Achalam
Sarwadhisakshi Bhutam
Bhāwātītam Trigunarahitam
Sadgurum Tam Namāmī
He has known the supreme most bliss which is the bliss of Brahman (absolute reality). He alone is the embodiment of gyāna (highest knowledge), beyond all dualities (he knows he is not distinct from God), incorruptible like space. He knows he is Brahman and points out that attaining this truth is the goal of human life. He who knows that there is none other than the one eternal divinity, who is pure, steadfast in all situations, a detached witness; he who is beyond the mind and its emotions, beyond the three gunās (fundamental principles), I bow down to such a Sadguru who in essence is none other than Shiva.
