Book Description
Introduction
Manang is the northern district in Western Development Region of Nepal. It has common border with Gorkha in the east, Lamjung and Kaski in the south, Mustang in the west and Tibet (China) in the north. It has, in common term, spectacular Himalayan bound aries on all sides. The district entirely lies to the north of Main. Himalayan Ranges, so geographically the district is also known as Inner Himalayan valley. Although the district lies in the rain shadow area of Annapurna and Lamjung Himal, it is less arid than other Inner Himalayan valleys such as Mustang, Dolpa and others.

Geographically, Manang lies within 28°25' N to 28°55' N latitude and 83°45' E to 84°34' E longitude. It is the second largest district in Gandaki zone, but it is the smallest district of Nepal in relation to total population. It has the lowest population density in Nepal. Really speaking, this remote district of Nepal is tourist's paradise because of full of towering peaks, turbulent rivers, picturesque lakes and varied fauna and flora. Some nature-lovers remark it as 'Himalayan Garden'. The district has 12 village development committees. In its physical extension, the district covers some portions of Annapurna Conservation Area in the western section. The district covers 2246 square kilometers in area and a total of 5363 number of population in 1991 census.
