Mahamahopadhyaya HaraPrasad Shastry is a well known Indologist and Scholar of great repute. This book entitled MAGADHAN LITERATURE is the collection of six lectures delivered by him. All the six lectures are remarkable for their penetrating analysis and advancement of cogent arguments for the conclusions arrived at. The Titles of the Lectures are: (1) Original Inhabitants of Magadha (2) Patliputra the intellectual Capital of India (3) Historical lessons from the Artha Shastra (4) Vatsyayan's Kamasutra (5) Nyaya Bhasya of Vatsyayana (6) Bana Bhatta and Aryabhatta. Every page of this splendid work had made new contribution to the Indological study.

In dealing with Magadhan Literature one has not only to think of Sanskrit. Classical literature but also of Prakrit literature in its variety of forms.

The first lecture brings about the salient features of the land and its association with the Vedic literature. The second one deals with seven great writer’s viz., Upavarsha, Varsha, Panini, ingla, Vyadi, Vararuci and Patanjali.

The other lectures make a detailed study of Arthasastra, Kamasutra, Nyaya Bhasya, Bana Bhatta and ryabhatta. The book will be an indispensable tool for the study of Indology.
