Love Your Eyes by the eminent eye specialist Dr. M.S. Agarwal, who has done pioneering work by popularizing natural methods of protecting the eyes from various defects, should be of great interest and value to all. More than anything else, it is our vision which we desire to keep intact as long as we live.
Many expensive medicines and treatments are available today, but it should not be forgotten that the methods provided by nature are the best. These are not only more effective but are also less expensive.
The exercises given here are yogic as well as others. Yoga, as we all know, is an ancient Indian science and is being increasingly practised all over the world today. I highly recommend this book to the readers and advise them to follow it religiously to save their vision, God’s greatest gift, from deterioration.
Eye is the most vulnerable part of human body. Once the eyes are affected by disease or damaged by agents like dust, soot or chemicals, they become useless. A knowledge on how to protect one’s eyes and how to prevent them from being put into bad use is thus very essential in the day to day life.
In modern times the stresses and strains on eyes have increased due to various reasons. Children have a lot of pressure to read books. There is TV to watch. One has to run about for the whole day for his livelihood and other purposes. The food is not nutritious and balanced and there is no pure milk, curd and ghee to consume. For these reasons there is a great need for a book on everyday eyecare aimed for the layman which would explain in some detail the basic rules to maintain good eyesight, the defects and diseases that affect the eyes and how to cure them.
Medical science and practice has advanced a great deal in our times. A variety of treatment is available for ailments of the human eyes. Yet, the treatment offered by modern medicine is at best palliative, and quite often it is only of marginal benefit in the prevention and cure of defective eyesight.
Statistics show that a large number of young people now-a-days suffer from defective eyesight. While glasses correct the defect, they do not provide a permanent cure. In many cases the vision deteriorates and the glasses have to be changed frequently. In this book I have tried to show the other way also, which is nature's own way. According to me, the principal cause of defective vision is strain, nervous tension and the wrong use of the eyes. A simple way out of this is mental relaxation, learning the correct use of the eyes and diet. I have also added treatment under other therapies such as Ayurveda, Nature Cure, Yoga and Homoeopathy which are equally effective for eye diseases.
I gratefully acknowledge the love and affection bestowed on me by my brother's wife Madam Dr. T. Agarwal of Chennai and my son Rajeev Agarwal of Rishikesh who were inspiration to write this book.
I have now moved to the bank of Ganges for the last twelve years and dedicate myself to PARMARTH NIKETAM RISHIKESH, where patients of EYE AILMENTS visit from all over the world.
I also pay my homage to my GURUDEV SRI AUROBINDO, The mother and my dear father Dr. R.S. Agarwal, a pioneer in alternative natural treatment of eye diseases.
