About the Author

Pooja Pandey, dwells deep into traditional Indian literature and mythology to bring it close to young readers by her lucid writing. As a storyteller, she is popular among school children's groups. Apart from entertaining children, she lays stress on inculcating moral values which are an inseparable part of Indian literature and mythology.

preface

Hindus believe that divine forces incarnate of Earth to remove evil and establish social order based on moral values. Krishna was one such divinity, who appeared on Earth in the Vraj region on the bank of River Yamuna famous for cattle grazing.

Krishna is highly revered by all Hindus, be they in the north or south, west or east. The only difference is that some revere him as Krishna himself, while others hold him in high esteem for being in incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Famous as a naughty child who stole butter from the houses of cowherd girls and played pranks upon them, he also freed the region from demons, who attacked the cowherd settlements on orders from the evil king of Mathura, named Kansa. In other words, this book contains short stories for children on how demons and asuras were killed by Krishna and his brother Balarama, who is normally not given as much importance in our mythology.
