The present work 'Lilävati-sandesa' belongs to the category of 'messenger poem' (sandesa or duta kavya) in Sanskrit literature. Dr. B.Mamatha, who was working in the 'Oriental Research Institute' has brought out the critically edited text of Lilavati-sandesa 'with footnotes, collating two manuscripts of the text. For this purpose, she has done a comparative study of manuscripts bearing the numbers P.3786 and B.1058, preserved in the Oriental Research Institute. Lilävati-sandesa bears the serial number 209 among the publications of this institute which is devoted to the research and publications of rare Sanskrit works written on palm leaf and paper manuscripts. The theme of Lilavati-sandesa is the plight of a bereaved gopika (coward damsel) by name Lilavati and her appeal to K???a, through a confidential friend 'by name 'Medhavini'. The significance of this work is in the 'champu-style' a mixture of prose and poetry adopted by the poet.
