Little is known about Hem Chunder Duct (also known as H. Duct and H. C. Dutt) a Bengali journalist and writer, active in Calcutta in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. He worked in some of the most well-known newspapers of the time, including the Amrita Bazar Patrika, the Bengalee, and the Hindoo Patriot. He started a number of publishing ventures, including newspapers and a short-lived magazine dedicated to detective stories, none of which were successful. His published works include A Chills History of India, Birendra Narayan and The Indian Monte Cristo.
