The sacred and chivalrous land of Mewar is situated in the southern part of Rajasthan where the eternal stream of bravery, devotion and spiritual love for Art, Literature and cultural activities has flown in the divine heart of its inhabitants. The Mewar area is surrounded by the Western Aravali Mountains Range, Eastern hilly Terrain and central plane where the glorious deeds of galantry were performed by its freedom-fighters from time to time. It has been the source of inspiration for all and has shown the right path of self-respect, love for country and respect for freedom.
The history of Mewar is enriched by the ardent devotion to Faith and Land. It has inspired the people of country to fight against slavery, injustice and evils of individuals and society. The rulers of Mewar believed in the concept of Ram-Rajya (Divine Kingdom) and voluminous books have been written on their achieve- ments. Among the long heritage of Maharanas of Mewar, Rana Kumbha projects an unparallel image of its own kind. The fort of Kumbhalgarh was built by him and it remains an immortal monument of his personality and work. The history of Mewar is decorated by the achievements of Maharana Kumbha. He was the only ruler who established, strengthened and widened the territories of Mewar.
The chivalrous land of Mewar (an erstwhile State of the then Rajputana) is mostly surrounded by the Aravali Mountains where the sprinkling streams produce sweet musical sounds. It has primarily been a place of unpa- ralled galantry, missionary spirit, love, unshaken faith and innumerable sacrifices at her altar. The vallies of Aravalis even today echo their deeds of bravery and their rocks are yet stained with the blood of those self- motivated warriors who laid their lives for the sake of free- dom and honour of their motherland. Not only that, they have left pages and pages in history in golden letters which even today inspire us with a ferver and arouse in us the spirit of devotion towards our motherland.
The author has the honour of being a bonafide native of Kumbhalgarh (district Rajsamand) where the great victor Maharana Kumbha passed most of his time during his reign. It was he who constructed this great invincible fort on the high peaks of Aravali tarrain to secure Mewar from external incursions from that side.
