In the Brahma?as or as appendices to them we find texts which were known as Aranyakas or 'forest- texts'. In the Black Yajurveda, the Taittiriya Aranyaka (T.A.) is a continuation of the Brahmana of the same name. Being the largest of its class, it consists of ten chapters or books (prapa?haka), VII to IX constituting the Taittiriya Upanisad, and X the Mahanaraya?a Upanisad, which is a late addition.. This edition contains the Devanagari text of the Taittiriya Aranyaka along with a Parisista or appendix to the tenth book of the Taittiriya Aranyaka. The contents are also given in an elaborate manner. All this is accompanied with a commentary by Saya?a.
