Sadakşrideva, as explained in Page 2, Sanskrit Introduction, fills in an important gap in the 17th century among the lineage of eminent Sanskrit and Kannada Mahakavis. His native place was Dhanugur, Malavalli Taluk, Mysore District. He was born in an Aradhya family and by virtue of his scholarship, conduct and character was taken as Rajaguru by Amṛtāmbā, the mother of Sri Chikkadevaraja Vodeyar, king of Mysore. She resided at Yelandur, Mysore District, where still exists the tomb (Gaddige) of Sadakşari.
