This book covers the syllabus of the senior grade of Karnaataka music prescribed for the special music examinations of Karnaataka Government conducted by the Department of Public Instructions in Karnaataka, Bangalore, and also the needs of aspirant performing musicians. Special feature of this book is detailed Raaga Lakshana with Sanchaara, which provides an insight to the outline of the Aalaapana. A little knowledge of theory will increase the level of enjoyment in classical music of general readers to become knowledgeable good listeners. The entire syllabus could not be completed in a single book. As such, it is divided into two volumes. Model questions will be brought out in the next volume.

This book is in two parts. Part I dealing with theory of music, part II with varieties of compositional forms with meaning, and authenticated versions.
