The Poornaprajna Samshodhana Mandiram had organized a Seminar on “Concept of Knowledge in Indian Philosophy” in March 2010. Any knowledge of a Prameya (an object or matter) is entirely dependent for its occurrence on Pramanas (means of knowledge). The knowledge is the proof of the existence of the object.
Most of the philosophers have discussed the means of knowledge, but have not concentrated about knowledge. Happiness, sorrow, knowledge are transformations of Antahkarana (Manas). The data of these properties are preserved in Sakshi (internal sense). The soul grasps them. As the Atman or Sakshi himself in the cognize of such internal entities, it is also an Indiriya. The Sakshi, without need of Indriyas, also congnizes its own swarupa, kala, Avyakrta- akasha etc. Therefore, it is called Sakshi. These are the Dvaita Vedanta thoughts about the knowledge-system.
National level scholars of different schools have presented their papers on the same theme according to Buddha, Jaina, Sankhya, Yoga Philosophies. I hope scholars of philosophy will receive this volume with great respect and pleasure.
The source of inspiration behind this useful venture is our founder H.H. Sri Sri Vishveshatirtha Swami ji. To him we owe all we have and all we shall have. How can we repay him for his support and encouragement except through our gratitude and Pranamas!
