Book Description
Foreword

The Jayamādhavamānasollása is work of medieval times, composed possibly in the earlier half of the 15th Century. The author, Jayasimhadeva was an independent sovereign of Gorakşapur. According to Pt. Haraprasad Shastri's catalogue in the Asiatic Society, "It is a work on Vişņava ritual both compulsory and optional". Dr. Mitali Chatterjee is the first to attempt a work in the available mss. of the Jayamādhavamānasollāsa, and has turned out a commendable treatise under the programme of DSA, Sanskrit, Jadavpur University. We are happy to announce the publication of this work and grateful to Dr. Chatterjee for her conscientious perseverance.

Preface

I am delighted to have come to what is not the end, but the first station on a long road. My effort to prepare a critical edition of the Jayamadhavamanasollāsaḥ started when a copy of the same became available from the Asiatic Society. Later on, at the suggestion of Professor Ananta Lal Thakur, it was first transcribed. Subsequently, two copies of manuscript were supplied to me by the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune, for transcription. So I express my thanks to staff members and colleagues of the Libraries of the Asiatic Society and Bhandarkar Research Institute. I express my thanks to Dr. S. Y. Wakankar, Director, Oriental Institute, M.S. University, Baroda and Dr. S.S. Bahulkar, Tilak Maharastra Vidyapeeth, Pune for giving me information of this manuscript.
