The present volume, seventh in the series of 'The Jats: Their Role and Contribution to the Socio-economic Life and Polity of North and North-West India' is the compilation of academic papers presented in the XV National Seminar on The Jats: Their Role and Contribution to the Socio-economic Life and Polity of North and North-West India (In Modern Context)' organized by Maharaja Surajmal Centre for Research and Publication, on 2" December 2017.
The volume includes twenty three research papers, which present various social and economic aspects of the Jats relating to modern period. The papers brought together here show an attempt to discuss the background of various segments of Jat history, indicating the kinds of evidence available and the doubts and theories that are under discussion among scholars. And it is a fact that through discussion attempts can be made to get more facts known, and to explain the kind of problems involved. It should be noted that many of these papers open new horizons of research in Jat history.

The Seminar drew wide response from scholars and as many as twenty three academic papers were presented and discussed.
This volume, seventh in the series contains selected research papers arranged thematically, present a wide range of topics under the of thought provocative themes. It gives this collection to interpret the main currents of the history of the Jats in modern context with a new perception and interpretation of the social history of this agriculture community, its struggles, lacunae and the progress made by its people, and the need for further achievements.
The present volume, seventh in the series of "The Jats: Their Role and Contribution to the Socio-economic Life and Polity of North and North-West India' is the compilation of academic papers presented in the XV National Seminar on - The Jats: Their Role and Contribution to the Socio- economic Life and Polity of North and North-West India (In Modern Context)' on 2nd December 2017. The topic though perennial, but itself is very significant, especially when many debates are going on about the history writing of modern India. The seminar was organized to provide a forum to discuss the role and contribution to the social, economic and political life of the people of the prominent agriculture community of Northern India known as the Jat. It had to accomplish two goals, first, to provide scholars a variety of themes related to the history of the Jats and the methods that can be used in filling up the gaps in studies that come in the way of appraising the contribution of the Jats to the emergence of national ethos. And secondly, to provide an outline for continuous searching and researching for newer material as well as with the critical insight to the prevalent material on the history of the Jats, especially belong to the modem time. It is a matter of satisfaction that all these topics have been touched during the sessions of the seminar. In all 23 papers were presented with various social and economic aspects of the Jats relating to modern period. It is heartening to note that seventeen papers find place here apart from the very important contribution in the form of inaugural address by Dr. Ram Pande, Editor of Shodhak, and the key-note address by Dr. Etee Bahadur, Department of History, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.
