Among the six theistic darshans including Sankhyayoga, two darshans directly deal with Vedic passages/ Vedic teachings One of these is Purvamimansadarshan which states or presents comprehensive explanation of the earlier part of the Vedas ie Karmkanda (Part that emphasizes on rituals) and Uttarmimansadarshan presents all-inclusive explanation of the later part i.e. Dnyanakanda (part that emphasizes on knowledge). The Mimansa Sutras by Maharishi Jaimini, a disciple of Maharishi Vyasa, the pioneer of Purvmimansadarshan, is the earliest available book on Purvamimansa. Mimansadarshan aims at elucidating the meaning of the teachings in Vedas, clearly stating the relationship between them, resolving apparent contradictions. Later, Shabarabhashya has been composed by Shabarswami based on Maharishi Jaimini's Sutra. Apart from this, some independent Granthas' also found to be written to explain the theory of Mimansa. These books are called 'Prakarangranthas'. The nature of these books is not to explain each sutra separately, but these books tend to collectively describe the subjects that come in all the sutras. Jaiminiyanyayamala is an important 'Prakarangrantha' (treatise) on Purvamimansa. Amatya Sri Madhavacharya of the Vijayanagar Empire is the author of this book. He himself has composed a definition named Jaiminiyanyayamalavistar on this book. The basic Jaimini Sutras are divided into twelve chapters. Each Adhyaya or chapter consists of a few 'Padas', and the 'Padas' consist of Sutras. This Nyayamala has done the description or explanation of these basic Sutras according to their original sequence. About the purpose of this book, the author himself says - "Mimansa used to be like a cluster because of the many commentaries and their incomprehensibility. But now with this book, it (Mimansa) will be as easy as a Pushkarini (The pond of Water) with water up to the navel, made for young princes to play."
