India has a long tradition of saints and sages. Although in the first half of the 20th century several notable saints, philosophers and learned men appeared on the Indian scene, few contributed more to the society as a whole as did Jagatguru Shankaracharya Shri Bharati Krishna Teertha.
This is the first book that gives the life sketch of Jagatguru Shri Bharati Krishna Teertha, acquaints the readers with Swamiji's thoughts on True Dharma, God and Man, duties of a man towards his country, society and upliftment of the poor, helpless and the downtrodden. The book also gives in a nutshell the contents of Swamiji's works, such as Sanatan Dharma, Vedic Metaphysics, Vedic Mathematics, Stotra Bharati Kamthahar and others. Besides, the book includes some of the experiences and events narrated by Swamiji's disciples who came into contact with him during his life time.
It is hoped that the readers of this country and our countrymen abroad are acquainted with, and will be able to draw inspiration by reading this book.
India has a long tradition of saints and sages. Although in the first half of the last century several notable saints, philosophers and learned men appeared on the Indian scene, few contributed more to the society as a whole as did Jagatguru Swami Shri Bharati Krishna Teertha. He was truly an extraordinary man of wisdom. If he is not widely known today it is because of his humility. Dr. Pande's attempt to document this biographical treatise is therefore commendable.
It is relatively easy to write about a sportsman, politician or social figure whose personal achievements are more well-known than it is to write about someone like Shri Bharati Kirshnaji who seldom talked about himself and shunned publicity. Eventhough we currently live in an era of super-specialization, our country has a heritage of philosophers, scientists, linguists, social reformers, nationalists, saints, leaders of religion and educationalists par excellence. Swami Shri Bharati Krishna Teerthaji was knowledgeable in all the above specialties.
