I am happy that RAV is launching third generation of workshop of interactive nature. First two workshops of the first generation were general dealing with all the subjects of Ayurveda. Then the second generation started in the form of a series of workshops dealing exclusively subject wise.
Overwhelming support from the participants and experts is stimulating us to evolve in the subject and methodology. There is a perceptible undercurrent in the Ayurvedic field that expects momentum and pace to catch with tremendous advances made in other sciences including modern medicine. Surface reality, however, demands basic understanding of the science. It is not easy to find solution to such a paradox.
We decided adventurously to launch the series of specialty workshops. This would embrace all the faculties starting from embryology-anatomy-physiology to surgery, gynecology-obstetrics-pediatrics etc. each dealing with only one aspect of human system. Since Ayurveda has got an upper hand in dealing with hepatological disorders, we decided to start this series with hepatology. Another improvisation that the Ayurvedic fraternity would observe in this book is inclusion of a few color figures and a glossary explaining a few technical terms used in the subject matter.
Specialty workshops are conceived to achieve a few following goals of RAV.
1. To establish a path towards a sound approach to comprehending and learning the vast amount of knowledge documented in Ayurvedic texts in its wisdom.
2. To decipher the verses and commentaries over them in a proper perspective and then dissipate this rich heritage of knowledge vertically and horizontally.
3. To initiate the young Ayurvedic practitioners apply their knowledge in a better way with support of modern science so that the science is better accepted throughout the world, equally well by general public as well as scientific community, without frustrating other contemporary medical systems.
4. To stimulate young mind for analytical and judgmental abilities to use these towards scientific discoveries with the help of modern advanced technologies and contribute something new to expand the already existing knowledge.
We need to preserve, propagate and proliferate our knowledge, and present it in the trend of the present era, which is essentially a primary requirement for the survival of any science to stand with dignity.
I hope this book of questions and answers and deliberations that take place in the interactive workshop will generate new enthusiasm and motivate the faculties from different institutions to go for such discussions to find answers to queries of students and budding practitioners.
I express my gratitude to the Department of AYUSH and the members of Governing Body for their constant encouragement in such novel programmes. I thank all the resou.ce persons and participants for their enthusiasm. I would like to place on record the appreciable work and support by staff of RAV, and Dr. Mrs. Sandhya Patel for helping in the preparation of this book.
