The Forest Policy of Government has a multidimensional effect on the political awakening and political consciousness of the people of Kumaun. The arguments for a forestation and against deforestation, the planning, the management and administration of forestry, the policy of forest utilization and the way they are being utilized altogether constitute the theme of forest Politics. The institutionalization of Forest politics is being shaped into a kind of forest political system.
Dr. (Mrs.) Suprabha Chaturvedi, presently working as Head of the Depart ment of Political Science in Dayal Bagh University, Agra is one of those political Scientists who have been following an interdisciplinary approach to solve any problem. She hails from an intellectual lineage. In the year 1984, she took her Ph. D. Degree from Kumaun University, Nainital. From the beginning, she evinced great interest in analytical studies. This made her contribute for the various magazines and newspapers.
Kumaun, bestwed upon by Nature with rich flora and fauna, has been drawing the attention of scientists, explorers and philosophers by its natural beauty, solitude, environmental purity and religious shrines. This region comprises of three Northern districts of the state of Uttar Pradesh viz. Almora, Nainital and Pithoragarh. Geologically the region has two surface features i.e. Himalayas in the north and foot hill belt of Tarai-Bhabhar in the south.
