Book Description
Preface

I have immense pleasure in introducing to the world of scholars and the general public the present Festschrift in honour and felicitation of Prof. Jagdish Sahai Kulshreshtha, a doyen of Indian Music and Indology in the country. He has served in the field of music and arts in various capacities for seventy years. He has 160 published titles to his credit. He has set to Indian music along with his daughter Prof. Sushma, the complete Meghaduta and Rtusamhara of Kalidasa , which is published in two volumes. Under his direction, a three hour audiOmusical cassette of Meghaduta, the longest ever of any complete Sanskrit text has been made. To render the famous Sanskrit works to music is a new horizon created by Prof. Kulshreshtha. Indeed, it is a laudable venture of his numerous colleagues, disciples, soholar friends and admirers to honour him, a savant of rare distinction and a celebrity of the music world, with the presentation of a Festschrift, on his 9Ist birth anniversary, hii Ekanavatimahotsava. This volume entitled `Jagadisa --Yasolaksmih: Indology on Cloud 9' is divided into two parts. Part I comprises thirty-six panegyrics, poetic compositions, memoirs and tributes by renowned composers and scholars. All these bring out several characteristics of his multifaceted personality and 'his unmatchable contribution to the field of Sanskrit, Music and Indology. Part H divided into four cascades and sixteen sections comprises sixty-four papers and articles from. renowned Indologists of India, some of whom are stalwarts and celebrities of the twentieth century adorning Sanskrit world. These papers by eminent scholars touching many aspects of Indology are all original studies on an area of their specialization. I am sure, this festschrift will be received as an inspiring cascade of Indology with fervor, zeal and fresheness by veteran scholars, budding penmen, penwomen and young researchers alike. It is a befitting tribute to -Prof: Dr. J. S. Kulshreshtha's life long devotion and dedication to the pursuit of Music, Musicology and Indology. I take this opportunity to congratulate the.three distinguished editors Prof. Ram, Karan Sharma, Prof. Sushma Kulshreshtha and Dr. Abha Kulshreshtha for bringing out an epitome of Sangita, Sahitya and Kala in the form of this illustrious volume presented in the honour of an eminent musicologist and our dear friend Dr. Jagdish Sahai Kulshreshtha. The distinguished contributbis equally, deserve our heartiest congratulations for their distinct contributions.
