Krishn was the avatar of Vishnu or Narayan. The mission he had was to protect the good and destroy the evil. Right from infancy to youth, Krishn played this role by killing various demons and serpents, and then Kans, the cruel king of Mathura who was his uncle. In his middle years, he vanquished tyrants Jarasandh and Shishupal, and set up a new township for his own clan, the Yadu clan or the Yadavs. In his later years, he played a crucial role in the war that took place between the Kaurav and Pandav branches of the Kuru clan, which had a common origin with the Yadu clan. Close associate of the Pandav brothers (representing the good), he saw to their victory over the Kaurav brothers (representing evil).
