This book is a collection of articles, essays and research papers on various fields of music which bring forth information and knowledge to the readers about the broad scope of music in the present era. It mainly highlight scope of music in new horizons, sociological perspective of music, role of music in attaining four purusharthas, arousal of emotions in music, role of music in charming one up, mental growth of a child with music, teaching moral values to children through music, improving communication skills through music, physical health with music, coping aids-related problems with gurbani kirtan, music therapy, psychological aspect of music therapy, role of performing and visual arts to cope with drug abuse among youth, faster growth of plants with music, and above all communion with God through music.
Dr. Narendra Kaur obtained Ph.D. in music from University of Delhi in 2010. She is a vocalist. Presently she is working as Associate Professor in R. R. M. K. Arya College, Pathankot, Punjab. She already has five books in her account and this is her sixth book. She has published a number of research papers in reputed journals and conferences and a number of compositions of Shabads in the ragas prescribed in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. She has given performances in a number of concerts.
My this book titled “Indian Music: A Glance at its Various Perspectives” is a collection of articles, essays and research papers on various fields of music which bring forth information and knowledge to the readers about the broad scope of music in the present era. This book is compiled in two sections; the first one in English language and the second in Hindi language. Most of the topics in English section elaborate the broad use of music for various purpose like mental health, physical health, entertainment, emotional release, therapeutic purpose, improvement of communication skills, better growth of plants etc.
The book starts with “Scope of Music” which throws light on wide application of music in various aspects of our life, while the second chapter “Sociological Perspectives of Music” explains its vitality in our society and culture. Dharama, artha, kama and moksha are the four purusharthas which our scriptures expound us about to live a successful life; how these purusharthas can be achieved through music is well described in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, it is tried to explain that music is capable of arousing various emotions and feelings and has its effect on human mind. The next one explains that relaxing one’s mind; music gives boost to one’s physical health also. Another expounds that children like music very much as it fascinates everyone with its magical power, it is therefore said that children must be provided with music through which various moral values and ethics can be taught to them easily and amusingly. The power of music is being used for therapeutic purposes also in places like hospitals, rehab centres, correctional centres, clinics, operation theatres etc. Which chapter thirteen and fourteen give details about.
In Hindi section some of the common topics are defined in new horizons with recent knowledge and information. In hope this book will serve the mankind as a good source of information with elaboration of the topics included.
