The presented book 'Indian Art & Culture' is sextremely beneficial for the candidates preparing for the Preliminary and Mains Examination of Civil and State Services. The entire subject matter of the book is divided into 3 sections: Indian Art, Indian Culture and Indian Heritage. Each section has, been discussed in detail in various chapters of the book. Dr. Manish Rannjan, a distinguished IAS officer from the 2002 batch, currently serves in multiple roles within the Government of Jharkhand, including Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate across several districts. After completing his early education at Netarhat Vidyalaya, Netarhat, and Patna College, Patna, he pursued his undergraduate degree at Hindu College, University of Delhi. In addition, Dr. Rannjan holds an MBA from the Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Gujarat, and a Ph.D. in Management Studies.

Dr. Rannjan further obtained a Masters of Public Affairs (MPA) from the University of California, Berkeley, and secured the esteemed Chevening Fellowship from the UK Government, enabling him to study at the University of Oxford. His educational journey spans various institutions, including Johns Hopkins University, USA; Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany; International Training Centre, Turin, Italy, and Korea Development Institute, South Korea. Dr. Rannjan's groundbreaking project utilizing disruptive technology in agriculture has drawn considerable commendation from the World Bank, Washington DC.

Among Dr. Rannjan's numerous accolades are the "Director's Gold Medal" for achieving top merit during his IAS professional training, the Prime Minister's 'MGNREGA Excellence Award for two consecutive years, the 'Nirmal Gram Puraskar' presented by the President of India, the 'Star Raft Award' from the Asian Federation of Intellectual Disabilities in Japan, and the SPANDAN award by the Government of India in recognition of his outstanding work supporting individuals with special needs.

This book titled 'Indian Art and Culture' is not only a collection of various facets of Indian Art, T Culture and Heritage but also serves as a comprehensive book depicting the rich diversity of India.

Indian arts such as paintings, architecture, music, dance, drama and theatre, puppetry. circus, Indian martial arts, cinema, etc. have been comprehensively covered under section one of this book.

The second section delves into Indian culture, exploring its evolution through the ages, the diversity of Indian languages, fairs and rituals, ancient and modern Indian literature, religion and philosophy, ancient science and medieval education, the Indian calendar, the arrival of foreign travellers in India and the influence of Indian culture abroad has been included.

Section three of the book features major monuments, although many monuments are spread all over the country and it is a bit difficult to describe all of them, but an honest attempt has been made to describe some of the major monuments including World Heritage Sites. The concise description of the monuments and buildings offers historical and basic information. Along with this, a brief account of famous social reform movements, national awards and honours as well as the ancient and medieval coins of India.

Since the book primarily targets aspiring candidates preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, all the necessary details about the various topics have been gathered from authentic sources mainly government publications and reference books to ensure accuracy and reliability.
