It is my great pleasure to write the foreword for such time-bound publication - Adhunik Bharatiya Sahitya Prasange (Vol II) edited by Dr Manan Kumar Mandal, Officer-in-Charge, School of Humanities (SOH), NSOU under the research project sponsored by UGC-DEB, New Delhi. Being the only Open University of West Bengal and largest in eastern India, it is our duty to cater quality education to the learner of our society. An Open University system would not sustain if it is not engaged in collaborative research and other processes of creative inputs in academic arena. The project on "Reading Indian Literature in Bengali", taken up by Dr. Mandal is one of many such attempts we have witnessed at NSOU, to connect with the domain of conventional mode of education.
Nowadays translation studies have become an emerging discipline for holistic appraisal of the ever flourishing field of Indian Literature. This book has some important essays on Indian Literature contributed by some serious scholars of the field. It includes some translation works as well.
With great delight we observe that that one of our faculty members had taken up such kind of quality research project and completed it in stipulated time, beside all other academic engagements. I wish all success of the project and a wide readership of the publication while taking up the advantage to remind Dr. Mandal of completion of the next one in the series, in time.
My heartfelt thanks would be there for Dr Mandal for his sincere effort and academic insight for this publication.
