I am the 'Mind'. My existence is as old as the Universe. I am the sole 'witness' to the advent of human existence and the subsequent ups and downs of human life. It is only because of me that human beings even exist today. It is solely 'I', who governs every human being round the clock. I am the primary and most significant reason behind all the ups and downs of his life, all his successes and failures, and even all his joys and sorrows. However, the irony is, despite my being in existence for aeons, the human being is still completely ignorant about 'me'. And truly speaking, it is this ignorance, which is the root cause of all his sorrows and failures. Today, after so many years, my compassion is compelling me to discuss my existence, my system of functioning and my influences. But before we proceed any further, I would like to draw your attention towards a thought-provoking and profound subject.
Think...! What is the purpose of human life? If stated in one line—Happiness and Success. I have observed, and certainly even you must have noticed that everyone is toiling day in and day out only to achieve joy and success. And this practice is not a present day phenomenon; it has been prevalent ever since human beings came into existence. It must be acknowledged here that human intelligence has been developing with every passing epoch. And I am not making a baseless statement; the results of the consistent efforts of human beings to improve their life are there for us to see. Humans, who earlier satiated their hunger by consuming wild fruits, roots and raw meat, have concocted thousands of delectable and nutritious delicacies today. Living in forests, humans who earlier braved the wrath of every season, have now constructed concrete houses that offer effective protection against the heat and cold. Similarly, humans who covered their modesty using leaves in primeval times, have now created myriad colourful garments to enhance their beauty and appearance.
Not only this, man, who lived a secluded life in the early ages, has now effectively developed the concept of society as well as a socially relevant way of thinking. Today, with his untiring efforts, man has united the whole world and transformed it into a global village. The greatest outcome of this development is that the sphere of his care and concern, which was earlier confined only to himself, has now been expanded to include mankind at large. At present, millions of people and thousands of social service organisations are relentlessly working towards the betterment of human life. Hundreds and thousands of orphanages, homes for the challenged, hospitals and parks have been established for the benefit of the underprivileged. Several laws have been framed and judiciaries have been set up to prevent people from falling prey to injustice. Simultaneously, various religions and religious
scriptures have also been created to help human beings eradicate their sorrows and lead a happy and joyous life. In keeping with the beliefs of human beings, thousands of saints and incarnations of Gods have taken birth on this earth for the sake of human upliftment. And if their belief system is considered to be true, they will keep descending in the future too, as and when the need arises. Moreover, for the upliftment of human beings, thousands of rituals, various forms of prayers and worship and religious practices have also been prescribed by the different religions of the world and their religious heads. Human beings, who have anyway been yearning for their upliftment, soon succumbed to these rituals and as a consequence, entire mankind became religious and ritualistic.
Then came Science which took charge of ensuring a happy and joyous life for human beings. A legion of intellectuals engaged themselves in this noble cause and ushered in such a remarkable revolution, that the infant mortality rate which was almost fifty percent two hundred years ago, has been drastically brought down to around two percent. Not only blood tests, but medicines and treatments have also been invented to diagnose and treat most of the diseases, in order to ensure the health and well-being of humans. Complex medical procedures, ranging from heart surgeries to knee and liver transplants have also been made easily accessible to all. In a way, it is these remarkable efforts of Science that have drastically transformed human life.
