Homoeopathy is a system of therapeutics devised by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann with the concept of 'like cures like", which means a substance that is capable of producing a set of symptoms in healthy individuals can act curatively for similar symptoms in sick persons. As such in Homoeopathy, the application of drug substances for therapeutic purposes is primarily dependent on the symptomatology of the drugs proved on healthy individuals. Since inception, Drug Proving has been one of the focused research areas of CCRH.
Proving trials have been conducted mainly on the partially proved drugs known in homoeopathic literature including the indigenous drugs. Besides, proving of a few new drug substances have also been taken up by the Council.
This book is third in the series of the 'Homoeopathic Drug Proving's published by the Council so far. It compiles the proving data of eight lesser known drugs. This, by no means, is the completion of the task. The evolution of Homeopathic Materia Medica is cyclic. The symptoms observed during drug provings are considered for prescription. Based on these symptoms, if patients are cured by the remedy, the symptoms are considered verified, and the remedy picture is evolved. The drug provings conducted by the Council are double blind placebo controlled trials so as to curtail the 'placebo effect' in symptom production and eliminate symptoms of doubtful value.
It is earnestly hoped that the profession would lend a hand in clinically verifying the symptomatology of the medicines compiled in this book, so that their therapeutic potential can be further explored and these can be valuable addition to the Materia Medica. The comments and experiences of the homoeopathic professionals are most welcome in this regard.
