The book History of Sanskrit Literature was written and published about fifty years ago by Brahmasri R. S. Venkatarama Sastri who was Professor in Madras Sanskrit College as well as in the Vivekananda College. He was a great Sanskrit scholar with a fine sense of critical appreciation of Sanskrit Literature. He had a fine musical voice with which he used to enrapture audiences with his musical renderings of chosen verses of Sanskrit especially from Kalidasa's works and Sri mad Valmiki Ramayana.
This book is written in a very lucid and simple style covering different fields of Sanskrit Literature beginning with Vedic texts.
It is the prescribed text for the Siromani course of the University of Madras. There are only a very few old copies available for reference.
There is therefore a long-felt need for publishing the book, which will be released during the Valedictory function of Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Institute.
This book will be of immense help to the students as well persons interested in the pursuit of Sanskrit studies.
