About the Book Medieval India refers to the Post-classical Era, i.e. 7th to 18th century CE in the Indian subcontinent. It is divided into two periods: The 'early medieval period' which lasted from the 7th to the 13th century and the 'late medieval period' which lasted from the 13th to the 18th century in some definitions, though many end the period with the start of the Mughal Empire in 1526. Medieval period of Indian history marks the advent of Muslims in India and subjugation of majority which met conversion, discriminations, war and strafes. This book is devised as a reference-cum-text book for students, and teachers of history and polity. Well-researched readings are grouped under the following headings: Advent of Turks in India; Muhammad Ghori and his Indian Campaigns; Rise and Fall of Slave Dynasty; Khilji Dynasty; Rise of Tughlaq Dynasty, Focus on Sayyid Dynasty; Rise and Fall of Lodi Dynasty. Advent of the Mughals: Babur; Humayun; Akbar the Great; Shah Jahan; Aurangzeb; Later Mughals and Downfall of Mughal Empire and Rise and Fall of Marathas etc. Definitely, this will serve the purpose of all those for whom this is meant.

About the Author Dr. V.K. Gupta obtained his Masters degree in History & Pol. Sc. From Gorakhpur University and was awarded Ph.D. (History) from the Agra University. After Serving in M.P. Govt. for some time he switched over to teaching and joined his alma mater. After selection in Higher Education Service, he taught History in various govt. Colleges till his retirement few years back.

Admittedly, such works cannot be accomplished single-handedly. While gathering basic information I have consulted a number of books, articles and other readings, penned by different scholars of repute. Web- based sources are also profusely consulted. Last but not the least, I am thankful to my publishers for undertaking publication of this book and materializing it superb way.

No doubt, every care is taken to furnish accurate information in this book, however, if any discrepancy may have crept in inadvertently, will be rectified in the next edition if brought to notice by learned users.
