This book has been produced as an accompaniment to the workshop entitled "Handloom weaving: Focus on weave notation, draft and peg plan" held in January 2009, sponsored by University Grant Commission. It explains the basic principles involved in creating a hand woven cloth. Various forms of weaving tools, equipments and materials are dealt with including types of looms, loom accessories used, yarns, etc. the emphasis is on basic woven craft rather than industrial production. The construction of woven fabric depends upon the design, (weave notation) draft and peg plan which are closely dependent on one another. The book should be of great value to the teachers concerned with the introductory aspects of the weaving and keen to gain basic understanding of woven structure with thorough knowledge of drafting system and possibilities of manipulating peg plan which enables the designer to introduce variety in the system of loom operating.
