The Sarasvati Mahal Library is a renowned institution and repository of manuscripts, maps, paintings and old books. It is one among the wonders of the world. It is needless to say that this is a great treasure house of knowledge. The benevolent influence of the great cholas, the erudition of Telugu Nayak Kings (1535-1675) and the scholarship of Maratha Kings (1675 to 1855), who ruled the Thanjavur principality during the centuries and had enriched the Tamil Culture. Rajah Serfoji, a many sided genius has added lustre to this great tradition by his refinement and mastery of languages. The Library Manuscripts are in palm leaf and paper and they dealt with various subjects such as Philosophy, Medicine, Astrology, Grammar, Folklore and Mythology. It is a knowledge centre, where research scholars and students community find immense source of literary wealth for their research work. Scholars from all over India and other countries visit the Library to collect information for their research and other studies. To disseminate Manuscripts knowledge this library publish books after editing of reputed Scholars. A Guide Book of Sarasvati Mahal Library (in Telugu) gives brief accounts of the Library History, collection and activities. Former Honorary Secretary Sri. S. Gopalan and Smt. M.Adilakshmi (Telugu Translator) had taken significant efforts for brought the publication. I Congratulate Thiru.D. Ravi, Telugu Pandit for revised the book with updated information of the Library additions. I am thankful to Government for sanctioning funds for publishing the book. I thank Administrative Officer Tmt. P. Santha, M.A., M.Ed., Librarian Dr. S. Sudarshan, MA, B.Lit., M.L.LS., PhD., and Library staffs for having taken sincere efforts to bring out this revised edition. I am sure that this Library publication will be welcomed by the Scholars and the Public and run into several editions.
