God Is Not deals about how the concept of god was created during Stone Age due to underdeveloped brains of human beings and inadequate scientific knowledge. The Stone Age man was afraid of natural calamities and unpredictable behavior of nature. The reasons of life and death, day and night and natural phenomena were beyond his understanding, and consequently, he started believing in God. Later on, places of worship were built. Along with the misbelief about the existence of god, many other misbeliefs such as the presence of soul, rebirth, life after death, principle of Karma and other superstitions crept in. The same misbeliefs have descended from generation to generation.
But the fact is that there is no god. Science does not believe in anything that cannot be seen, heard or felt. The worshipping of god is a very costly affair for the society - We spend a lot of money and time on false beliefs. and superstitions.
In this book, efforts have been made to convince people about the non- existence of god logically and scientifically. Although theism is so much deep-rooted in our lives, it will take a long time to bring about complete atheism. But ultimately, truth must prevail and ignorance must end.
Piyush H Shah is a retired government employee. He has eight technical papers to his credit, written for national and international seminars. He has read the major religious books such as Vedas, Gita, Upanishads, Bible, Quran and also technical papers of cosmologist Stephen Hawking. After retirement, he has focused on spreading true now edge about non-existence of god to the world. He does not believe in soul, life after death, reincarnation, principle of karma and superstitions. His goal in life is to spread the truth about non-existence of god and eliminate.
The thought whether the god exists or not, was there in my mind since young age. At home the worshipping of god by parents, visit to temples, attending kirtans in community centers etc. was strongly advocating presence of god. Whereas looking to the sinful conditions seen, read and heard in the school, society and world over were creating an extreme confusion about the presence of god. However the psychology at that time in my mind was that let me worship and believe in god. If god is not there, there is no harm but if god exists, I will earn his favor in my life and beyond life.
But, now after consistent thinking and observing for many years, 1 determined that god does not exist. The personal god who rewards for good deeds and punishes for bad deeds does not exist.
It is only a chance that the good deeds are rewarded and bad deeds are punished. Many times reverse is also observed. This has been perhaps observed by the majority of human beings in the world. Good people also get stick and bad people sometimes get carrot, is not uncommon phenomenon of today.
There is neither the evidence of reward or punishment for our deeds in this life nor assured even in the next birth.
Many renowned people like Socrates, Plato, Karl Marx, Lenin, Einstein, etc. have opposed the existence of personal god. Buddhism and Jainism have never promoted god in their religions. Einstein had once said that personal god was invented by coward people. But some fake saints have found religion as a very lucrative business, which can give them name, fame and money.
I believe that intolerance seen in the world is mainly because of the belief in different gods and religions by different castes and creeds. Which religion and god is superior is one of the main reasons of disputes and riots between the communities. If this very cause is eliminated. intolerance may reduce significantly.
The reason to write book 'GOD IS NOT is to let the people know the truth. It is necessary that we give true knowledge to masses and eradicate the wrong beliefs spread throughout the world. It is sure that true knowledge regarding nonexistence of god will prevail ultimately but it may take hundreds of years. True knowledge can be introduced in society only through scientific knowledge in schools and colleges. Lot many research institutes should be established for thorough understanding of god and other unknown facts of the universe.
We have received a lot from society; hence it is our duty to pay it back by adding new knowledge to society or by removing wrong knowledge. One most prominent misbelieve is to believe in the existence of god, who is nonexistent. The idea is not to hurt holy feelings of people but to tell them the truth. In this valuable human life, one should not die with ignorance.
The book is particularly for the new generation who will explore the existence of god with a new angle and rule it out. But the theism is so much rooted in the society that revelation of truth will take long time. Night is dark and stormy and we have to travel with a lamp. But let the truth prevail. There is no slightest intension to hurt the feelings of any one.
