Preface

This small book, which, has for its theme 'God and Divine Incarnations,' is an integrated compilation of the speeches and discourses of Swami Ramakrishnananda, on the particular subject. The articles incorporated here were published in different volumes of The Brahma-vadin, The Prabuddha Bharata, The Vedanta Kesari, and The Message of the East.

A great Sannyasin disciple of Sri Ramakrishna, a spiritual stalwart of profound realizations, an intrepid searcher and verifier of truth and a titan among honest intellectuals, the author has handled his theme as a scientist. He subjects the hoary Hindu mythological lore and traditional concepts to a thorough analysis with the result that what may appear to many as the expose of our Sanatana Dharma, stands before us as a prop of great strength, which no scientific can shake.

We have here along with other allied discussions, interpretative discourses on the seven Avataras, viz, (a) The Matsya Avatara, (b) The Kurma Avatara, (c) The Vamana Avatara, (f) The Parasurama Avatara and (g) The Sri Krishna Avatara. This is all we could recover from the sources mentioned above. The author's Sri Krishna, the Pastoral and King-Maker, which already fan into five editions, also fall in the same line of his discourses on Divine Incarnations.

We confidently hope that all seekers after truth will find this small book a profitable study.
